|
Pros
|
Cons
|
Lady-Comp (Pearl-lndex 0.7):
30 seconds a day (after waking)
measured by sensor under the tongue. Pressing a key once,
display indicates : "green"
= infertile, "red"
= fertile. All data for exact identification of ovulation
are programmed |
Natural,
extremely safe, ecologically beneficial and healthy
contraception. No harm to your body by chemistry. Single
investment without recurring cost.
On request,
the appliance can be fitted with a planning program.
|
There are only
few fertile days on which either continence or use of
condoms are required.
|
Baby-Comp
(Pearl-lndex 0.,7):
Like Lady-Comp, with integrated
special program for planning a wanted child
|
|
|
Pill
(Pearl-lndex 0,1-0,9):
There are about 100 different
kinds. The body is supplied with dosed hormones (oestrogen
and progestogen) simulating pregnancy.
Due to the sudden break in hormone supply the menstruation
starts during the break.
|
Very safe.
|
Serious side
effects of various grades. Higher risk for smoking and
drinking women. Unilateral method, the partner is not
integrated.
|
Mini-Pill
(Pearl-lndex 0.4-2.5):
The hormone progestogen slows
down building of the membrane of the uterus, thus rendering
the cervix membrane impermeable and keeping the ovary
fixed. |
Contrary
to the pill ovulation is not prevented.
Rather
safe.
|
Requires discipline.
2 hours of variance in taking it, reduceed reliability.
Intermediate bleedings and spotting occur more often.
Hormonal impairment.
|
Micro
pill:
Works like the pill but is lower
dosed. |
|
Safety drops
with lower doses.
|
Spiral
(Pearl-lndex 1-3):
The spiral is implanted in the
uterus. It is made of synthetics coiled with copper wire.
Copper has an immobilising effect on sperms and acts as
a foreign matter against which defensive cells are produced. |
Depending on
the type, a spiral lasts two to five years.
Rather safe.
|
Risk of inflammation
and of tubal pregnancy. Painful implantation, regular
gynaecological control. Not suitable for women who want
to get pregnant later.
|
Condom
(Pearl-lndex 2-5):
A condom consists of thin latex
(rubber). It is soft and elastic and should be slipped
on the penis before sexual intercourse |
No side effects.
Can be used at any time. Protects also against infections,
such as e.g. Aids
|
Is considered
disturbing and "separating". Requires absolute
discipline during days of optimum fertilisation.
|
Diaphragm
(Pearl-lndex 2-5):
It is a relatively large sized
latex cap, to be inserted through the vagina and placed
in front of the mouth of the womb.
|
Can be used spontaneously.
|
The cap has to
be adapted individually and is inserted with a spermatocidal
agent. Application has to be learned.
|
Chemical
agents (Pearl-lndex 9-25):
Gel, cream, suppositories
destroy the sperm coat by chemical agents thus rendering
it infertile
|
Can be used spontaneously.
|
Has to
be used some minutes before sexual intercourse. Occasional
itching, rubor.
Not very
safe.
|
Temperature
Method in Connection with checking of cervical mucus (Pearl-lndex
below 1):
Temperature is taken every morning
before getting up. In addition, consistency of the mucus
(produced inside the cervix) is checked with the finger
at the orifice of the vagina.
|
No side
effects, natural. Women learn much about their body.
Most reliable
|
Requires much
discipline. A lot of application and evaluation rules
to be observed. Requires experience to interpret the
signs and curves correctly.
|
Sterilization:
of man or woman. Both cases require
surgery that can hardly be undone. |
